THE RICKARDS

The Rickards branch of the Welburn family

Alice A. Welburn, and her twin brother Isaac, were born in September 1859 in the farming community of Roxana. She makes her first appearance in the Federal Census of 1870. Around 1877 she married George H. Rickards (born Oct. 1856).

1880 Census records show Alice & George residing in the Baltimore Hundred. George was employed as a sawmill laborer, but at the time was in some way maimed or disabled. They remained in Delaware through the mid 1880's, relocated to the Newtown Township of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and rented a home while George worked as a farm laborer. Later he earned a living as a hod carrier.

There were reportedly 11 children born during their marriage. Eight survived to adulthood. Alice A. Welburn Rickards died between June 1917 & 1920. George H. Rickards died between 1910 & June 1917.
