The Hopkins Branch of the Welburn Family

Mary Ellen Welburn and her twin sister Hannah were born in February 1840 in the farming community of Roxana in the Baltimore Hundred. She is most commonly referred to as "Ellen". She makes her first public records appearance in the 1850 Census at the age of 10.

Between 1858 and 1860 Mary Ellen married John M. Hopkins, a widower and father of 4 small children, who resided near Tunnell's Store in Baltimore Hundred. 2 sons were born during the marriage: Ira & James. Mary Ellen Welburn-Hopkins died sometime between 1880 and 1897 when John Hopkins married for the third time to another woman named Mary.
